Our Story
My name is Norman Ogawa and I established Allerdream in 2007 with the desire to create and provide the best tasting gluten-free products at an affordable price. I first found out about the Celiac Disease in the fall of 2005 when I was talking with my wife’s cousin’s stepdaughter (Stacey) who is affected by this disease. Like most people, I was not aware that anyone could be allergic to wheat, or more specifically, to the protein called gluten which is found in grains such as wheat, rye, barley, and triticale. My first question to her was what can you eat? This was when I was enlightened to the challenges in avoiding specific foods and alcoholic drinks that contain gluten. That evening, I began thinking about creating a dessert for Stacey. I remembered a dessert my Aunt used to make for me which was made with rice flour. With a few changes to her recipe, I developed a cake which I call Lemon Mochi Cake. In the fall of 2006, I also developed a chocolate cake for my friend’s nephews. One was allergic to eggs and dairy, the other was on a wheat free diet. It was at this time I began to realize that there was a need for gluten-free desserts. After doing some research and sampling other gluten-free products, it was very apparent that most of the freshly baked products I had sampled were dry in texture, did not have the texture or taste like wheat- based products, high in price, and frankly did not taste good. This sparked a passionate desire to develop a line of gluten-free products which would be as close to taste and texture as compared to wheat based products. We also believe that our products are so good, that anyone can enjoy or products.
